The more shows I go to, the less over time I’ve managed to get to a venue in time for the night’s first opener. On Saturday at the Belasco Theater in downtown LA, I made sure to get there early enough.

Ryn Weaver had moved on from selling out the El Rey just a few months ago to a headlining spot at the Belasco, a sizable venue on a Saturday night in LA. This show had support from HOLYCHILD and ASTR — two acts with considerable promise and reputations as live performers — both for whom I could attest to.

Rising pop-star Ryn Weaver will return to Los Angeles this November after playing a sold-out gig there in July at the El Rey Theatre.

Weaver will headline a show on Saturday, November 7 at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Also featured on the bill are HOLYCHILD and ASTR, making it quite the packed show.

Saturday night, the MTV VMAs kicked things off with a pre-party at Avalon in Hollywood, showcasing talent as part of their Artists to Watch. Though none of the performers on this night were up for the actual award the following day, Walk the Moon, St. Lucia, Robert Delong and HOLYCHILD are all talent worth keeping an eye on for the future. Grimy Goods has been covering them for years, but it looks like the folks at MTV are just finally catching on.
