Though they both share Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions as their promoter, junior lightweights Adrien Broner and Eloy Perez have taken considerably different routes to Saturday night's destination: a 12-round HBO-televised co-feature slot from St. Louis, Mo. underneath the welterweight clash between Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana.

 Broner, 22, of Cincinnati, Ohio, has been the focus of attention in the United States when it comes to the 130-pound division; his last three bouts have all been televised by HBO and he has been well-favored to win all three of those contests. Against Perez, Broner is currently a 5-to-1 favorite to defend the WBO belt he won against overmatched Argentine Vicente Rodriguez in November. Perez was actually considered to fill that slot, but his team decided to wait for a better opportunity, a smart move in hindsight.

Team Eloy Perez Moves Camp To SoCal In Prep For Adrien Broner 

With just three weeks to go before they make their arrival on the big stage, Team Eloy Perez has relocated their training camp to Oxnard from Oakland, Calif., according to assistant trainer Sam Garcia. The move is in preparation for his HBO debut against WBO 130-pound beltholder Adrien Broner, set for Feb 25 in St. Louis, Mo. in the co-feature to the intriguing welterweight scrap between Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana. Perez and company have been working at King's Gym in Oakland for the past few weeks with Virgil Hunter and his growing stable of fighters, including junior welterweight Mike Dallas Jr. and lightweight Stan Martyniouk. Perez will now be down in Oxnard at Robert Garcia's gym to spar with undefeated former WBA 135-pound titlist Brandon Rios as well as fellow junior lightweight Argenis Mendez.

Wednesday saw news break that the IBF super featherweight clash between South African based defending champion Mzonke Fana [30-4, 12 KOs] and #1 contender Argenis Mendez [18-1, 9 KOs] of Brooklyn, New York has been scrapped from its original date of June 11^th in South Africa's Carnival City due to Fana claiming he does not have a trainer or proper training facilities to be ready for his mandated defense.

WBO #2 Salinas, Calif.-based super featherweight Eloy “The Prince” Perez [21-0-2, 5 KOs] continued his winning ways, outboxing Alejandro Rodriguez [12-2, 6 KOs] of Guadalajara, Mexico to a unanimous shutout over ten lopsided rounds in defense of his WBO NABO 130-pound title in the televised main event Friday night of Telefutura's Solo Boxeo from Longshoremen's Hall in San Francisco, California. The bout marked the second straight for Perez at the location as he awaits a world title opportunity that based on his recent performances should be around the corner.

Friday night, in front of 3,943 people at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, Daly City, California's Ana Julaton [6-1-1, KO] added the WBO female super bantamweight title to her IBA belt by thoroughly dominating Donna Biggers [19-9-1, 16 KOs] of Boiling Springs, Colorado over ten lopsided rounds. Julaton enjoyed her victory in front of an even bigger crowd than her previous fight at the Tank against Kelsey Jeffries on September 12^th.

In an exceptionally well-matched card on paper, Golden Boy Promotions presented three equally intriguing bouts featuring some of their hottest young stars and seemingly had a can’t miss card. Unfortunately, anything can happen in the sport of boxing, and that includes three high-profile bouts being less than expected for reasons that were uncontrollable. The HP Pavilion lured HBO into their town of San Jose, California with a mission to prove that the city is a fight fan city, and the hometown crowd was successful in that mission as 6,765 people were reported in attendance. On this night, however, quite a few instances occurred that took some of the air out of the tires that was the three televised bouts.
