On Sunday, the final day of Governors Ball was canceled due to weather and several artists billed to play that day scrambled to find a way to play elsewhere within NYC.

Indie rock darling Courtney Barnett was the only one offering a free gig, popping up in the hipster epicenter of New York at Williamsburg's Rough Trade NYC record shop. A line wrapped around the block as people stood in pouring rain several hours early to lock down one of the 150 or so spots inside the tiny performing space at the back of the shop.

Aussie rocker Courtney Barnett and Nova Scotian indie outfit Alvvays will team up for a show at the Glass House in Pomona on Thursday, April 14. Both are slated to perform at Coachella on consecutive Saturdays, April 16 and April 23rd. But before they do that, they’ll partake in a show that’s part of Coachella’s yearly sideshow series.

This past year was a great year for debut albums, and especially a mammoth year for women in music. About 65 percent of our debut selections are from some very talented women. While we could have easily added a few more records to this list, we like to keep it selective. When it comes down to what exactly makes a “best debut album of 2015”, there are a lot of factors at play, but for us, all the debut records listed below were constantly on repeat throughout the year. From hip hop, rock, pop, electronica and more — these debut albums were each extraordinary in their own way.

After taking a bus from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and flying into Austin from there (cheaper flight, y’all), I hit the ground running for South by Southwest (SXSW) on Wednesday.

After waiting in line at the House of Vans at Mohawk for about an hour, I finally got in and was able to see Denver-based Son Lux. Lead man Ryan Lott utilizes a lot of interesting sounds — both on his vocals and on his keyboards — bringing together a sound that can best be described as a more electronic-heavy version of The Killers. The set-closing song “Lost it to Trying (Mouths Only Lying)” was the strongest track of the set and had the small bar-filled crowd really feeling it.

Melbourne alternative indie rocker Courtney Barnett has released a new video for her track “Pedestrian at Best,” while at the same time announcing the release of her debut full-length album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit for Mar. 24 via Mom + Pop Music.

Barnett has blown up the last few years with her impressive live shows as well as her 2013 double EP A Sea of Split EPs. She played the festival circuit last year (including Coachella) and most recently melted faces in Los Angeles at the El Rey in November as part of Red Bull Sound Select’s #30DaysInLA.

After getting loads of Red Bull swag, munching on empanadas, and getting strung out on vodka Red Bulls (THERE WAS SO MUCH RED BULL) I bumped into fellow Grimy Goods contributor Mark Ortega. ZB: I only bumped into you a bit later in the night. How was it your first half? Did you get there in time to swag a screen-printed Courtney Barnett poster?

MO: No! I thought those were just for people that won them via the scratchers? I got one of the #30DaysInLA posters though — No. 2 in my collection.
