Hercules’ Vasquez fighting for more than ring glory

Friday night, Hercules, Calif.’s Paul Vasquez faces the stiffest test of his sometimes-frustrating boxing career as he meets veteran Elvir Muriqi in an eight-round light heavyweight main event in Whippany, N.J.

 Vasquez has compiled a 9-2-1 record over a nearly ten-year career since turning pro in Fresno back in July of 2004. While frustrating inactivity has plagued him, Vasquez doesn’t fight for aspirations of world championships, but instead he fights to raise awareness to a cause dear to his heart.

 “My wife Brenda, she is a pediatrics nurse,” explained Vasquez in a phone interview on Monday.
