Vicente Escobedo claimed added another former world titleholder to his resume by scoring an impressive second-round knockout of veteran Kevin Kelley in the second round of their scheduled ten-round lightweight bout. Kelley edged the opening round that saw him land a few good body shots while Escobedo remained rather ineffective. That all changed in the opening seconds of the second round when Kelley was dropped by a dangerous right hand. Kelley made it to his feet before being battered by another series of heavy shots courtesy of the local prospect. Official time of the stoppage was 1:53 in the second round.

Chula Vista , California prospect Christopher Martin [15-0, 3 KOs ] remained unbeaten by scoring a fifth round stoppage of game Torrence Daniels [ 12-10-1 , 5 KOs ] of Colorado Springs , Colorado . The feather-fisted Martin scored only his third knockout in fifteen professional fights. Martin had never fought above 123.5 pounds but scored this victory at 135. Daniels had his moments as Martin elected to trade with Daniels in the corner quite a few times. Martin dropped Daniels in the fifth with a wicked hook that sent Daniels through the ropes. Daniels would make it to his feet only to receive a barrage of punishment courtesy of Martin before the referee waved the fight off officially at 2:52 .

Andrew Cancio of Blythe , California scored a fourth-round stoppage of Michaelangelo Lynks of Chicago , Illinois in a one-sided lightweight bout. Cancio dominated the fight leading up to a questionable stoppage in the fourth round. Cancio would stun Lynks several times throughout the fight but Lynks seemed to recover quickly from whatever Cancio offered. There was a question to whether Cancio could keep up the pace as Lynks kept moving forward while landing some good shots of his own. Official time of the stoppage was 1:50 of the fourth round.

In a crowd-pleasing six round super bantamweight bout, Juan Jose Beltran of Los Mochis , Sinaloa , Mexico earned a unanimous decision victory over Tokyo , Japan ’s Akihiko Nago in a phonebooth war. Beltran dominated the first few rounds behind a heavy inside onslaught, but Nago had his moments in the middle rounds to swing some of the momentum. A big sixth round by Beltran earned him the victory. Both fighters kept marching into the center of the ring to trade blows, but Beltran consistently landed better. Two judges had it 58-56 while one judge had it 59-55 all in favor of Beltran. UBR scored it 58- 56 in favor of Beltran.

Local prospect Brandon Gonzales [8-0, 7 KOs] of Sacramento, California scored a one round knockout of Oakland, California’s Ray Craig [5-6, 2 KO] in a six round super middleweight bout. Gonzales landed a picture-perfect right hook to the body to drop Craig, who would not make it to his feet in time before the referee waved the fight off at 2:13 in the opening round.

Ashanti Jordan [9-0, 7 KOs] of Fairfield, California remained unbeaten by scoring a unanimous decision victory over Alvaro Morales [3-5-5] of Las Vegas, Nevada in a heavyweight stinker. Neither fighter was willing to engage the other, and the bout was met by heavy boos from the crowd. Jordan did enough to win each round but could have pressed the fight much more. All three judges scored the bout 59- 55 in favor of Jordan.

In an evenly-matched four round heavyweight fight, Tony Johnson of San Jose , California [1-0] scored a majority decision victory over Henry Wells [0-1] of Sacramento , California . Both fighters exchanged heavy blows with Wells starting the fight at the quicker pace. Down the stretch, Johnson seized control of the fight landing bombs that seemed to have a great effect on Wells. One judge had the bout even at 38-38, while two judges scored the bout 39- 37 in favor of Johnson. UBR scored the bout a draw, 38-38.
